Product Description

Phaseolus vulgaris

The Hutterites emigrated from Southern Russia, what is now the Ukraine and Krimea. in the 1870’s to South Dakota. They can now be found in Canada’s prairie provinces and in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Montana and Washington State. This bean was, in fact, one of their staple foods. Thanks to Daniel L. Flyger for the correct information. Hutterites produce tidy plants with 8 cm (4") long pods. They are strong and very productive. The mature beans are a pale green with a distinctive purple eye. They have a delicate, buttery quality when cooked.
